Portfolio
Background: The client’s yard was struggling aesthetically and ecologically. The client would plant something but generally the plants would die, due to the soil type (St Charles Clay) not being compatible with the plants.
Goal: Add native plants that are compatible with the soil, and the client would like to see texture and movement throughout the seasons. They wanted to see more bees and birds when sitting on their porch.
Outcome: We did some soil remediation adding in Mushroom Compost to add in microorganisms and enhance drainage. We planted tall muhly grass, native shrubs that would flower throughout the year. Plants include: Gaura lindheimeri (White & Pink Guara), Coreopsis linifolia (Texas Tick Seed), Salvia azurea (Blue Salvia). The day after we planted we began to see hummingbirds!

Background: The garden was under utilized during the pandemic and needed a lot of love. Lindsey Castillo managed many of the garden aspects such volunteer hours, member meetings, member planting days, harvesting and events.
Outcome: Successfully lobbied District 4 to fund GrowNYC for the first time ever. In return, GrowNYC built new beds for the garden. We had 15-20 community garden beds that local members could grow their own organic food. We built a community compost drop off, which was picked up weekly by a local non-profit. Built a children’s garden to be tended by the local kids on the block. Helped secure a $300,000 grant via participatory city funds for installation of water in the garden.
